Challenges on the Battlefield and in the Newsroom
Play It
97 minutes.
From 10/30/2003.
How have the new 24-hour global news environment and the Internet changed the way wars are reported? Where is the line between tough reporting and aiding the enemy? Can embedded reporters be objective and fair? Are patriotism and journalism compatible? Who tells the stories of innocents caught in the crossfire and the trauma of refugees - and how often? How do reporters cope with witnessing extremes of human suffering and thier own fears? What do today's news consumers want and need from today's news media?
A panel discussion recorded Thursday, October 30 in room 145 of the Communication Arts and Sciences Building.
Scheduled panelists include: John Bebow, from the Detroit News; Suzanne Kelly, from CNN International; Bill McWhirter, MSU School of Journalism professor and former war correspondent for Time magazine; Stefan Simons, from CNN International; and Taro Yamasaki from the Detroit Free Press.
The event is moderated by Bonnie Bucqueroux, coordinator of the Victims and the Media Program at MSU.
